Remembrance at Witheridge Academy

This week it has been Remembrance Day. We have made some things to represent Remembrance and raised money for the Royal British Legion by selling poppies in school.

Some of us created a giant poppy. On the poppy, we wrote the names of soldiers from Witheridge who have died in the wars. We spoke in Collective Worship about the meaning of Remembrance. The whole school held a two minute silence at 11 o’clock.

It has also been our first week of our new Terracycle project, where you can recycle your bakery waste. We haveĀ  collected so much already. It would be an even bigger help if you could all bring in some bakery plastic waste to help us to recycle more.

Check back soon for more updates.

An Eventful Week

At the start of the week our Eco rangers, Zac and George, led an assembly all about Cop 26 and UK Parliament Week and about the exciting visitor we would be having on Friday. On Thursday, School Council had their first meeting and were joined by Zac and George to speak about our Terracycle project.

On Friday we were joined by Selaine Saxby (the MP for North Devon) and our School Council had the pleasure of meeting her. People in Class 3 and 4 wrote letters about how important climate change is. People in Class 2 made Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament. In class 1 they made delicious Big Ben biscuits and some lovely art .

This week has been engaging and as fun as can be.
