The harvest festival

Every year in our school we have a harvest festival and it is a festival where we bring food in cans and packets and we go to our local church in Witheridge. All of our food goes to a charity in Tiverton called CHAT and it is a really good charity for homeless people that don’t have any food or drink.

This years harvest festival was on the 3rd of October which was a Thursday. In class 4 they talked about the history of farming, class 3 talked about farming, class 2 wrote a prayer together and spoke it in the church, class 1 sung a song called Big red combine harvester and reception showed of their wonderful paintings of trees. Out of our whole school we filled 4 whole boxes with canned foods and food in packets and a whole table at the church. Lots of parents and carers of the children came and watched our school showing pictures, saying prayers or talking about the history of farming. We also sung 3 different songs one called Cauliflowers fluffy another one called Cabbages and greens and a hymn called We plough the fields.

The harvest festival lasted about 1 hour and a half. The harvest festival was a great oppurtunity for the village to look at the schools work and come to the harvest festival and see all of the amazing things that each class showed of to the village people. The vicar of Witheridge and his wife led the harvest festival and they spoke prayers and gave us blessings. Lots of other members of the church came and helped out as well.

theatre trip

Class 4 went to the theatre to see a poet and an illistrator. (Elina Broslina and Kate wakeling) We got to see Elina draw live and listen to Kate read us some of here poems from the book cloud soup.

It was also a fantastic time to show off how well behaved we are. Kate even called up kids from the crowd to hold something or do an action! Closer to the end we got to ask some questions and have them answered. At the end we got a book called cloud soup. I was hoping we would get a merit for how good we were but turns out we didn’t. It took us 30-45 mins to get there. Because it was in the exeter theatre next to the university.

We got back around 12:38 only 8 mins into our lunch. When we got back we had a bit of play time and then went to have our lunch. There are a lot of events every year and more!

We also had a very nice lunch!

Class 4 Bristol Trip

In class 4 we were able to go to John Wesley’s New Room in Bristol. In the morning,we went for a walk around Bristol. We stopped in many different places and chatted about our topic, Maafa. We were able to sit in the courtyard and eat our packed lunches. After lunch, we went into a classroom and watched a video about how Bristol was involved in the Transatlantic slave trade.  After that, we went into the museum and completed a questionnaire about John Wesley. Mr Wiggans gave the class a challenge on who could finish first, for a prize of 2 merits.

We are all very thankful for the people who gave us this wonderful opportunity.
