Christingle Service

Due to bad weather conditions, our Christingle service took place in school. We sang 3 songs with our Christingles. Sue brought a large orange with a candle to be lit by Emma, our head girl. Some pupils in class 4 were chosen to hold up letters to spell out Christingle. The children read out each meaning from the letters in the word Christingle. Sue read out prayers as did Miss Ratcliffe, Cody, Emma and Molly. We read the Lord’s Prayer to end our service.

The Wave Project

The Wave Project is an incredible oppurtunity that pupils in the trust were able to take part in. The Wave Project is a charity designed to help build confidence within children. It is a six week course helping us learn how to surf.

Week 1 :

On the first week we were introduced to the volenteers and the instructors. We all practised  getting onto the board. Once we got into the water a few people we able to stand up!

Week 2 :

On week 2, we all got our wet suits on and did a practice as we do every week. After that, we went into the water. Some people that week were able to stand up on the board. Everybody had loads of fun and enjoyed themselves!

Week 3 :

On week 3, we put our wet suits on and had a practice on getting on the surfboards and standing up, although we weren’t able to go in the water. This was due to water pollution as the water was too dirty for us to go in. Instead we went onto the beach and had a sea creature building competition. After that we looked at a bunch of life guard equipment.

Week 4 :

Thankfully on week 4 we were able to in the water again. We put our wet suits on and practised getting on and standing up on the surf boards. This week even more people were able to stand up on there boards ! We have so much fun going surfing! We all are very happy and grateful for this oppurtunity.

Week 5:

Sadly on week 5 we weren’t able to go into the water due to pollution like on week 3. Instead we got to go down to the visitors centre and the sand dunes. We had our own staff member help us around the sand dunes. While in the dunes we played sand dune bingo. This was where we went around the dunes and looked for different plants and creatures. One person found a very hairy caterpillar and put it in their pot of things we could collect.  Despite the fact we couldn’t go in the river we all had and excellent day and were exited for the next week of surfing.

Week 6:

Week 6 was our final week of the wave project. Luckily we were able to go in the water. As normal we put our wet suits on and had a practice. After that we walked down to the beach. We went down into the water .We had loads of fun this week and really enjoyed our time. Some people managed to do some tricks and others stood up. At the end of the session we had a little ceremony where Jaz gave us a certificate of achievement for getting to complete the Wave Project. At the end of the day we got back into the bus and left for the final time.

We are all ever so thankful for being able to go to the wave project. None of this would have been possible if it wasn’t for Mrs Bowels and Miss Loosemore.

The harvest festival

Every year in our school we have a harvest festival and it is a festival where we bring food in cans and packets and we go to our local church in Witheridge. All of our food goes to a charity in Tiverton called CHAT and it is a really good charity for homeless people that don’t have any food or drink.

This years harvest festival was on the 3rd of October which was a Thursday. In class 4 they talked about the history of farming, class 3 talked about farming, class 2 wrote a prayer together and spoke it in the church, class 1 sung a song called Big red combine harvester and reception showed of their wonderful paintings of trees. Out of our whole school we filled 4 whole boxes with canned foods and food in packets and a whole table at the church. Lots of parents and carers of the children came and watched our school showing pictures, saying prayers or talking about the history of farming. We also sung 3 different songs one called Cauliflowers fluffy another one called Cabbages and greens and a hymn called We plough the fields.

The harvest festival lasted about 1 hour and a half. The harvest festival was a great oppurtunity for the village to look at the schools work and come to the harvest festival and see all of the amazing things that each class showed of to the village people. The vicar of Witheridge and his wife led the harvest festival and they spoke prayers and gave us blessings. Lots of other members of the church came and helped out as well.

theatre trip

Class 4 went to the theatre to see a poet and an illistrator. (Elina Broslina and Kate wakeling) We got to see Elina draw live and listen to Kate read us some of here poems from the book cloud soup.

It was also a fantastic time to show off how well behaved we are. Kate even called up kids from the crowd to hold something or do an action! Closer to the end we got to ask some questions and have them answered. At the end we got a book called cloud soup. I was hoping we would get a merit for how good we were but turns out we didn’t. It took us 30-45 mins to get there. Because it was in the exeter theatre next to the university.

We got back around 12:38 only 8 mins into our lunch. When we got back we had a bit of play time and then went to have our lunch. There are a lot of events every year and more!

We also had a very nice lunch!

We were able to sit in the courtyard and eat our packed lunches. After lunch, we went into a classroom and watched a video about how Bristol was involved in the Transatlantic slave trade.  After that, we went into the museum and completed a questionnaire about John Wesley. Mr Wiggans gave the class a challenge on who could finish first, for a prize of 2 merits.

Year 5 Blundells Trip

During the month of June, all of year 5 went to Blundells Boarding School. We all had the pleasure of taking part in several activities throughout the day. In the morning we participated in two activities on Ancient Greek history, one of which we learnt how to write our names in several different ancient languages. After that we had the opportunity to sacrifice Percy Pigs as they would humans in temples during Ancient Greek times. At lunch time, we had a lunch from the actual school cafeteria. The children of  the secondary school ate with us(though  a little bit overwhelming). The food was delicious. In the afternoon we got to participate in several athletic activities which were very enjoyable. Hurdells, shotput, discuss, javelin and long jump was included. It was a very engaging day. Finally we returned back to school.

Sponsorship Forms

All children have been sent home with forms. They will be asking you to sponsor them – they might even ask if other friends and family. They could ask friends at school but make sure they check with you first and also with their parents that they are paying themselves (not with their parents money PLEASE). They will need to walk to school and back each day when they get home they can tick the box of. If you go on the bus you could go for a walk before you get on the bus. If you drive to school you could ask your parent to park a bit further away and walk into school. If you do not walk to school at all you can’t tick it off.
